Current research unveils the trick that successful people use to rewire their brain is counter intuitive and successful people do it automatically. And its critical to their success. To explain this research, I’ll introduce a region of the brain called the Prefrontal Cortex.

The Prefrontal Cortex is responsible for the executive decision making and is necessary for stability and making decisions that will pay off later rather than immediate gratification.

Authenticity:

Years ago I had become interested in “Being Authentic” I noticed my life improved. The social veneer I had constructed as a child was unnecessary and actually kept people further away. I discovered that being authentic drew people closer because authenticity allows others to experience the freedom to be authentic around you as well.

When I came across the concept of “Radical Honesty” I discovered a whole new level of authenticity. This has taken my life to an extraordinary level of intimacy in my romantic relationship, my friendships and my business relationships. A large part of what I do as a coach is to assist others with being honest with themselves. As I help a person increase their awareness, their life exponentially improves.

Neuroscientist, Christian Ruff, did a research study where participants could lie to gain rewards while gambling. They found that people lied 65% of the time (in the control group). In a subsequent condition mild electrical stimulation was applied to the prefrontal cortex of the subjects. The subjects who had their prefrontal cortex stimulated lied much less! We can deduce that an active prefrontal cortex causes people to tell the truth! The big question; does telling the truth enhance the prefrontal cortex? My opinion; the answer is a resounding: YES! We had an expression in medical school, “That which wires together, fires together. What that means is that neurons don’t only fire in one direction they fire both ways. Meaning that if the prefrontal cortex enhances truth telling, truth telling enhances the prefrontal cortex.

If you are serious about creating a quantum leap in your wealth, try telling the truth (I know it’s not always easy). It could transform your life in a radical and profound way.
